Straight-ahead jazz faithfuls will find their Christmas present at Blues Alley for the next few days: tenor saxophonist Branford Marsalis and his trio.
Their appearance, which began last night, is part of a seven-city tour that will feature music from the "The Dark Keys" album, released in October.
The CD of eight original pieces is performed by Mr. Marsalis, 36, bassist Reginald Veal and drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts. Mr. Marsalis composed five of the selections; Mr. Watts scored one, and two Marsalis brothers - trumpeter Wynton and trombonist and producer Delfeayo - scored one piece each.
