Preservationists fighting to protect the hallowed grounds of Civil War battlefields have emerged victorious and armed perhaps with a stronger weapon after a battle that took twice as long as the war between the states.
The Frederick County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday night became the final government body to approve the sale of $6.5 million in low-interest, industrial bonds that will be used to protect three sites.
The bond issue in its own right is historic, say officials with the Association for the Preservation of Civil War Sites. It is the first time they know of that the bonds will be used to preserve battlefields.
