Oct. 25 -- ARLINGTON, Texas -- ROBERT BEVERLY HAS MADE A CAREER out of forging his own way and creating the unusual. Along the way he has survived lows that left him broke and desperate, but he has bounced back to find new heights to scale.
When Beverly graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1986 with a degree in electrical engineering he decided that he would be both happier and better off financially if he were his own boss.
He parlayed his woodcarving hobby into a small business, taking out a $1,000 loan to rent office space for a wood products company he named Beverly Designs.
