Tunisia's ruling party, the RCD (Rassemblement Constitutionnel Democratique or Constitutional Democratic Rally) is so intricately woven into the fabric of independent Tunisia that it is impossible to separate the two and still end up with a whole of either.

Like the nation itself, RCD has gone through a series of metamorphoses since its founding in 1920s and in the process, changed its name several times.
