Alter years of debate among drinkers - and a little wishful thinking - scientists have isolated red wine as the best alcoholic drink to help in the fight against heart disease. It has long been held that a glass or two of red wine helped blood circulation. Now researchers say they have evidence that neither beer, spirit nor other type of wine can match red wine for preventing silted-up arteries.
The team at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, successfully demonstrated red wine contains a high proportion of substances called polyphenols which inhibit the deposit of fat in blood vessels, according to a recent issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. ...
