Consolidation in the dairy industry and "even more rapid consolidation" in the food retailing sector continued in fiscal 1999, but Dean Foods Co. took actions in the year that have left the company "poised to benefit from these consolidation trends," according to Dean Foods chair and chief executive officer Howard M. Dean and president and chief operating officer Richard E. Bailey.
