A clear sense of eager anticipation surrounds the Presidential and Parliamentary elections, scheduled for the 24th of this month (October). Most Tunisians you talk to tell you that this is the crossing of the Rubicon. During these elections, the country will be taking the final step into maturity as a modern, democratic nation. Come the new millennium and Tunisia will have cut the umbilical cord that still loosely attaches it to the developing world and will take its place among the developed nations.
