Even countertenor David Walker can't avoid the word "normal" when referring to, well, the normal male voice categories of tenor, baritone and bass.
"I think the resurgence in the past five years or so in countertenors is the fact that countertenors now have much more technique, much more ability," Walker said. "It's all becoming much more like a normal - I mean, what is expected of a normal opera singer. We're trying to be a legitimate voice type - which we are!"
While countertenors always have been around, it's only in the past few years that they've become popular with mainstream audiences.
