The School of the Assassins is losing its scholarship fund. On August 2 the House of Representatives voted to cut $1.2 million from the School of the Americas, the Fort Benning-based military training camp that, according to the US Intelligence Oversight Board, relied until recently on manuals condoning summary execution, coercion and false imprisonment. The SOA's illustrious alumni include Manuel Noriega, the assassins of Archbishop Oscar Romero and the Salvadoran officers who ordered the murders of Jesuit priests, US Maryknoll and Ursuline sisters and lay missionaries.
