Long dominated by allergy and pain medications, the over-the-counter (OTC) market is seeing renewed life, primarily driven by herbal supplements and vitamins. This segment was the strongest performer in the self-medication market last year with several new entries by drug companies. Also of note is the emergence of possible new prescription (Rx)-OTC switches for cholesterol-reduction, antiobiotics and alcoholism.
