Jim Corsi admits he has not pitched well this season, but even he did not realize his fate when he was called into manager Jimy Williams' office late Monday night. By the time Corsi emerged from the session, his Red Sox career had effectively come to a close.
Prior to a game between the Sox and Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park last night, the Sox announced that Corsi has been designated for assignment, meaning the team will trade or release him within the next seven days. General manager Dan Duquette said the Sox could send Corsi to the minors, though the Newton native has the power to reject that assignment.
