Bruce Marks said the Shubert Theatre would never suit the needs of Boston Ballet - or its patrons. He made it clear that his company would not perform there.
But the artistic director and CEO has retired. And Boston Ballet this afternoon completes a four-week run at the Shubert, its first performances there.
When the Wang Center gained control of the Shubert, Wang CEO Josiah A. Spalding Jr. made it clear that the 1,600-seat Shubert would be primarily a home for the nonprofit performing arts - like the Ballet, which had been dancing exclusively at the Wang Theatre for years.
The goal was to free up the 3,700-seat Wang for big-production events ...
