At Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park in Western Ontario they tell legends of Greenmantle, the Indian princess who sacrificed herself to save her tribe.
One version goes like this: Learning of an impending attack by the Sioux, the beautiful Ojibway princess paddled her canoe up the river to the enemy encampment above the falls. Pretending to be frightened and in despair, she made a bargain with the Sioux - she would lead them to her father's camp if they would only spare her life. Accepting the offer, the Sioux warriors placed Greenmantle in the lead canoe and set out down the Kaministiquia River for the Ojibway camp. They knew nothing ...
