Charles Francis Adams of Dover, retired chief executive officer of Raytheon Co. and a direct descendant of Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams, died Tuesday at home. He was 88.
Mr. Adams joined Raytheon in 1947 and served as president from 1948 to 1964. He retired as chairman of the board in 1975.
"He infused Raytheon with his very heart and soul," said Dennis J. Picard, current chairman of Raytheon's board.
Mr. Adams served as the catalyst behind the largest industrial employer in Massachusetts and the 82nd largest corporation in the country. Under Mr. Adam's direction, Raytheon became a leader in hiring the physically handicapped.
