A classic grand hotel of the White Mountains dating back more than a century, the majestic Balsams resort has evolved over the past 30 years into a magical, self-contained winter destination renowned for its fine food, Old World ambience and, especially, myriad outdoors activities.
For the 1966-67 winter season, the resort nestled within Dixville Notch in northern New Hampshire brought the opening of the Wilderness downhill skiing area - today both the hotel and ski mountain are known as The Balsams Wilderness - just down Route 26, which cuts through the soaring granite spires of the notch.
