Meredith Monk at Sanders Theatre, Cambridge, Friday night.
On Friday night, Sanders Theatre in Cambridge became sacred space. And since it was Meredith Monk who presided over its blessing, expect it to remain sacred for a long time.
The occasion was the Boston premiere, presented by World Music, of composer-singer-director Monk's 1996 "A Celebration Service" - and her first Boston appearance in nearly a decade.
Using all the elements you'd expect of a religious ceremony, including readings, organ music, singing and ritual, Monk's nondenominational "Service" proved a sweet masterpiece of spiritual beauty, simplicity and love. And in these times ...
