That's the bottom line for many BankBoston customers, who feel they will lose a cherished ally when they get merged into Fleet.
Forget stock prices for a minute. Forget bank fees. Forget which executive lands which job.
There's a widespread sense that Boston is losing its last big bank with a heart. A bank that knew better than most how to tackle the bottom line and be decent to human beings at the same time.
