Prompted by a lack of funds, the Florida Bar Foundation has voted to end its diversity scholarship program.
The move to sunset the scholarships -- which were initiated in 1991 to help attract more African Americans to law school -- comes as part of the Foundation's ongoing belt-tightening efforts brought on by a reduction in IOTA income due to lower interest rates.
Meeting in Coral Gables in October, the Foundation board accepted a recommendation from its Law Student Assistance Grant Committee to end the scholarship program and instead use the $300,000 allocated for law student assistance this year to keep afloat its Public Service Fellows and Legal ...
