PROJECT OVERVIEW
A Sino/British joint venture is currently gearing-up to implement the construction of a polypropylene (PP) plant on a fast-track basis. The partners in the planned undertaking include UK-based BP AMOCO CHEMICALS, a subsidiary of BP AMOCO PLC, and the local SHANGHAI PETROCHEMICALS (SPC).
The new factory, to be sited at Jinshan, China, is said to be part of a $2,500,000,000 ethylene complex that is being planned by BP and SPC. The decision to move ahead with the PP unit was reportedly prompted by the government's recent decision to slow- down joint venture petrochemical projects that are planned in conjunction with foreign partners.
