FMC CORPORATION'S earnings were lower in the third quarter than they were in the same period a year ago, but the company's industrial chemicals division turned in a strong performance. Commodity chemical producers LaRoche Industries Inc. and Vulcan Materials Company also saw their quarterly earnings take a hit, primarily because of the poor performance of the chloralkali industry.
