SoHo received a splash of local color this summer when Kirna Zabete, New York's version of the quirky Parisian boutique Colette, opened its doors. With a merchandise selection that includes apparel by Hussein Chalayan, shoes by Alain Tondowski and handbags by LuLu Guiness, the store also carries baby, dog and home accessories, as well as imported "lotions and potions."
According to owners Sarah "Kirna" Hailes, a former Christian LaCroix employee, and Beth "Zabete" Shepherd, former fashion editor of New York magazine, the downtown enterprise was borne out of a desire to inject new life into New York's fashion scene. "We felt New York wasn't exciting enough ...
