Broadband technologies are helping build next-generation enterprise networks that bridge the growing gap between networks' current capabilities and business requirements. In the campus environments, broadband networks based on 10/100 (and soon 1,000) megabit Ethernet switching and, to a lesser extent, ATM technologies, are already well established. In enterprise wide area networks, broadband networks are mostly the domain of carriers who have the necessary economies of scale to build broadband access and backbone networks.
