National developer and homebuilder selects a new model for its future.
Del Webb Corp., based in Phoenix,Ariz., is the largest developer of active adult communities in the world and the seventh largest single-family homebuilder in the country. Founded in 1928 by Californian Del Webb, the company continued to grow--even during the Depression and WWII--to include Webb's creation of Sun City, Ariz., out of a cotton field to his introduction of the concept of "motor hotels." Del Webb himself is fondly remembered for his ownership of the New York Yankees, from 1945 until 1965, during which time the team won 10-World Series.
