The National Institute for Research on Inorganic Materials in Japan says that it has discovered a new intercalation compound with a graphite structure.
The material apparently displays properties similar to graphite intercalation compounds (GIC) but contains rarely seen layers made up of boron and carbon. In addition, unlike existing GICs, the new compound is produced through a solid-phase reaction.
