The Cooper Clinic, a Dallas, Texas-based internal and preventive medicine practice, faces a significant scheduling and logistics challenge each day. With dozens of patients undergoing comprehensive physical examinations that can require more than 20 different tests, the clinic needs someone who can ensure that the operation always flows smoothly.
Boyd Lyles Jr., M.D., an industrial engineer, fills that role. Lyles earned a BSIE from Southern Methodist University in 1971 before deciding on a medical career and entering the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1975. The IE education, he says, was an ideal training tool for his profession.
