Scores of families and descendants of George Washington attended a Thanksgiving Day service at Washington National Cathedral to pay homage to the founding father who first proclaimed Thanksgiving as a national day of prayer.
Jewish, Muslim and Christian clerics joined several Washington descendants and other families at the cathedral and offered thanks for the first president's dedication to promoting religious freedom in America.
"George Washington dared to dream, to establish liberty and to advance its cause," said the Rev. Frederick Quinn, cathedral chaplain, during the service.
