TORONTO -- When managing hypertension, it's the blood pressure, stupid.
Their words were more diplomatic, but this was the message from two experts who spoke about selecting antihypertensive drugs at a meeting of the International Society on Hypertension in Blacks.
When choosing among a diuretic, [beta]-blocker, calcium channel blocker, or ACE inhibitor, "use any as initial therapy because it is blood pressure reduction, not the specific drug, that makes the difference," said Dr. Marvin Moser, a hypertension specialist from White Plains, N.Y.
