Brazil's National Petroleum Agency (ANP) announced Monday that 38 companies from 12 countries have qualified to bid during the country's first upstream tender on June 15-16, at the Sheraton Hotel in Rio de Janeiro. Among them are three major takeover targets, Arco, Mobil and YPF, as well as all their suitors (see table).
Last month, 42 companies from 13 countries paid up to $300,000 for data packages on the eight basins where the 27 blocks on offer are located (TOD, 5-24-99, p.8). ANP said that the world's 10 largest private oil companies were among the registrants.
