ATLANTA -- HIV infection and AIDS continue to take a relatively larger toll on African Americans in the United States, according to Helene Gayle, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention.
Recent data suggests that AIDS rates among African Americans are now 10 times higher than among whites.
New federal data suggests that half of all new HIV infections, new AIDS cases, and AIDS deaths are among African Americans, despite the fact that this cohort comprises only 13% of the U.S. population.
