A new, centralized Department of Public Health building will open in Roxbury's Dudley Square in 2003, city and state officials said yesterday, a move they hope will serve as a catalyst for future neighborhood development.
The $50 million project, a joint venture between the city, state, a private developer and local landowners, will move 1,200 state employees to the area, Mayor Thomas M. Menino said.
The announcement came after Gov. Paul Cellucci signed legislation late Thursday that lets the Department of Public Health move from four locations throughout the city to one central headquarters.
