The League of Women Voters is pushing a lofty left-wing political agenda for the 2000 elections while cloaking itself in a nonpartisan image it relies on for influence.
A few weeks ago the League of Women Voters, or LWV, lobbied hard in favor of the defeated Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. Now the LWV is championing campaign-finance reform, one of the hot-button issues for the 2000 presidential campaign, while simultaneously -- and jealously -- guarding the "nonpartisan, impartial" image the organization relies on for its influence.
