In a ceremony similar to the Hollywood Academy Awards two Syrian entertainers have been honoured by southern California's Syrian community.
Members of the Syrian American Arab Association (SAAA) chose comedian Dourade Lahham and actress Muna Wassef as recipients of their first lifetime achievement Al-Ataa awards.
Before each presentation, a video biography was shown which highlighted the major films, plays and comedies of both stars.
Lahham was born in Damascus in 1934, where he earned a master's degree in chemistry and taught high school. In 1960 he launched a new career in comedies which satirise the poor man's lot in life.
