A massive improvement in Paris suburban services, which handle 2 million journeys each day, is underway.
Two out of three of SNCF's passengers use Paris suburban services, and while TGV high-speed services have earned a reputation for quality, the image of services in the French capital has been sinking. In launching the new brand name Transilien, Mr Louis Gallois, president of French National Railways (SNCF), commented: "Our wish is to achieve for the Paris area what has been done with the TGV for mainline services."
