ABSTRACT

A system that centers on management of wild populations of the black soldier fly and self-harvest of mature larvae for feedstuff can also reduce manure and control houseflies. Current efforts involve studies of the biology and culture of this useful insect and development of commercial applications.

An inexpensive manure management system has been developed that can convert manure to a 42% protein, 35% fat feedstuff at an 8% dry matter conversion rate (Sheppard et al., 1994).
