The Red Sox have landed a center fielder who can hit for average, power and steal bases. They've landed someone who can do all that, plus play defense and throw out baserunners.
He may not be Ken Griffey Jr. or Bernie Williams, but on paper at least, Carl Everett answers one of the club's primary needs heading into 2000: He plugs a hole in the middle of the outfield and in the batting order.
Save for adding another top-line pitcher, could there be a better Christmas present out there for Sox fans? I think not.
