RICHMOND, Va., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Circuit City Stores, Inc. (NYSE: CC, KMX) today announced that W. Alan McCollough has been elected to the company's board of directors and will add the title of chief executive officer in June 2000, succeeding Richard L. Sharp, who will remain chairman of the company.

McCollough, a 12-year Circuit City veteran, was named president and chief operating officer in March 1997. His career at Circuit City includes extensive experience in the retailer's two principal operating areas, store operations and merchandising.
