Grupo Mexico, S.A. de C.V., which recently acquired 100% of Asarco Inc. and consequently 54.3% of Southern Peru Copper Corporation ("SPCC"), today has called for a Meeting of the Board of Directors of SPCC to be held, Friday, December 17, 1999 at 6:00 p.m. (New York time), in which the appointment of new members of the different Commitees of the Corporation will be resolved, as well as appointment of new officers of SPCC.
