Like you, I've witnessed the distress of many veterans and their families when they learn that not all veterans may receive an honor guard at their funeral. This reaches to the heart of American patriotism and is the final tribute that a grateful nation can and should render to its departed soldiers.
The Department of Defense or a community's veterans service organizations have over the years admirably tried to provide military honors at funeral services.
