MONTE CARLO, Monaco - If Paris is where good Americans go to die, Monaco may be where they go to taste the high life before expiring.
Even in winter, Monaco soothes the senses.
When clouds obscure the horizon and temperatures are far from benign, a visitor can be happy spending time in a hotel room watching stately apricot-colored gladiolas open slowly against a blue-gray Mediterranean in the far horizon. Yachts are at rest in the harbor. White curtains billow gently in the breeze. You could be inside a painting by Henri Matisse.
