Although fishing evokes images of a solitary man with boat, bait and tons of lures and tackle, it can also be a fun family outing.
By choosing the right child-friendly fishing venue and providing youngsters with easy-to-use equipment, parents can expose their children to what is arguably the most popular participatory sport in the country.
"You want to get kids hooked on fishing?" asks Glenn Cumings, a naturalist at Black Hills Regional Park in Boyds, Md., and resident fishing expert at the park's Little Seneca Lake. "It's simple. They've got to catch fish!"
