After years of solitary kitchen duty, I am rejoicing because my 10-year-old daughter has become a chef.
It didn't happen all at once. She has coaxed "cooked" creations out of the microwave for years: melted cheese on bread, melted cheese on pitas, melted cheese on bagels - even melted cheese on a plate. But I was always nervous about letting her use the oven.
Then my mother reminded me that I was preparing multicourse meals before I was in double digits. That's not quite true. I did prepare family meals at a precocious age, but my route to my junior Betty Crocker badge was not without a few culinary catastrophes.
