NEW YORK - There is no more fitting image of the Baltimore Orioles' train wreck of a season than that of relief pitcher Armando Benitez, frustrated and wild-eyed, being hammered from all sides after igniting an ugly brawl with the New York Yankees on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.
Benitez had just given up a go-ahead home run to Yankees cleanup hitter Bernie Williams with two outs in the eighth inning, the Orioles' fifth-consecutive blown save, and he reacted by hitting Yankees first baseman Tino Martinez in the back with his next pitch.
