The elected D.C. school board, brushed to the sidelines 18 months ago and replaced with an appointed board of trustees, is likely to soon become empowered again.
The D.C. financial control board is negotiating an agreement in which the disenfranchised school board would regain substantial authority over teacher certification, textbook adoption and other areas, The Washington Times has learned. In exchange, the school board would abandon its federal lawsuit against the control board for taking away its powers.
