"A Perfect Murder" falls demonstrably short of perfection, but it's a gratifying novelty these days to encounter a deluxe murder mystery. Has there been one lately? Or not so lately? I don't think so.
A clever and diverting update of "Dial M For Murder," a "classic" source that could stand some tinkering and refurbishing, "A Perfect Murder" comes closer to the real deal. Given the recent preponderance of trigger-happy urban crime thrillers that teem with lowlifes, this stylish combination of the posh and the malicious may also be well-timed for blockbuster success. "Murder" may reactivate a neglected gold mine of popularity.
