SAN FRANCISCO - After weeks of speculation about banned clubs and technological devolution, the USGA addressed the issue of trampoline effect in clubheads yesterday, backing down from a battle with equipment manufacturers like a paddled puppy.
Speaking in high-brow language that belied his soft-line message, USGA executive director Dave Fay addressed the media yesterday on the subject of spring-like effect - a term used to describe the amount of extra impetus a large clubhead with a thin face can impart to a ball at impact.
