The Wonderful World of Washington Sports & Entertainment had planned to hold a rally yesterday at MCI Center to celebrate the Washington Capitals' successful season, reaching the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in their 24-year history.
Minutes after the Caps lost to the Red Wings 4-1 in Game 4 on Tuesday night, giving Detroit its second straight championship, the Caps' public relations people were handing out notices for the rally.
Then, minutes later, they had a recall, saying there would be no rally after all. When asked why, a team spokesman said it would be "physically impossible."
I guess they couldn't find 5,000 Red Wings fans ...
