Frederick County is a weekend getaway kind of place. Bill Clinton goes to Camp David. The rest of us visit the mountains and the quaint city of Frederick. But look closer and you see something else - a former outpost of open land and dairy farms transforming itself into one of the hottest growth areas in the Washington region.
Suddenly, this semirural county northwest of Washington isn't so far away. Houses have been built by the hundreds to accommodate a 1990s population spurt. Business development - retail, office, commercial and industrial - is following close behind.
