The Brazilian textiles industry is to produce sales of US$21bil this year, a 5% increase in comparison with 1998. A similar growth is forecast for next year. Paramount Lansul, the major yarns producer in Brazil, invested US$5mil in new machinery during this year and plans to invest US$20mil more next year to lift its production by 25%. It posted a turnover of R$130mil last year and forecasts R$230mil for this year, of which 30% corresponding to exports.
