AS PART OF ITS SHIFT to life sciences, Rhone-Poulenc (RP) says it will sell its specialty chemicals division--to be renamed Rhodia, effective January 1--in two years unless the business significantly raises its financial performance. However, RP CEO Jean-Rene Fourtou believes that applying life sciences technology to specialty chemicals product development can help improve Rhodia's performance.
"RP is focusing on developing specialty chemicals in [consumer] sectors, including food additives and cosmetics," says RP president Philippe Desmarescaux. "To do that, it is essential to develop synergies between life science and chemical activities."
