Hopefully the enthusiasm generated for Duke Ellington's music during his centennial year will increase in the next millennium, as he is arguably America's greatest composer.
The fact that boxed sets of his music continue to be issued augers well for his fans. The latest is a five-CD Mosaic album, "Duke Ellington: The Reprise Studio Recordings," containing music he cut from 1962-65 for Frank Sinatra's Reprise label. Sinatra had great respect for Ellington, and it was reported that the band leader would have carte blanche with Reprise.
